Jazz Up That Plain Jane Vase

My boyfriend bought me flowers the other day, and had them delivered to my house. They are still beautiful, even four days later! The thing that wasn't so beautiful, the free vase that came along with it. Although each bouquet can't have its own personalized, brightly colored vase (not to mention its a free vase, so who's complaining?), you can jazz your vases up a little. Putting your own personal touches on plain vases gives you more options for each vase, and also prevents you from accumulating hundreds of various vases. I simply grabbed some ribbon from my vast collection, and tied it around the vase.

I didn't even try to make a bow, or anything fancy. I went with more of the, "Hey, I have some ribbon laying around, maybe I'll tie it on that vase" kind of feel.

 Stop and smell the roses!

You can get funky with patterned ribbon, or experiment with different widths, colors, and textures. Let me know what you think. Have you ever put your own touches on 'Plain Jane' items?

What Do You Do When Your Best Friend is in the Hospital?

Bake cookies of course! I made my bestie Amy this cookie bouquet after she had her chest surgery. I brought the lovely bouquet to her today. If  you want to see the "How-To" steps on how to make your own cookie bouquets, just visit the How-To section of my blog. I also have the recipes to the cookies and the icing listed, so check 'em out, and try to make a cookie bouquet for your next event!

I hope she doesn't kill me for putting this pic of her up!

The 2010 US Women's Open

Natalie Gulbis and Michelle Wie. Photo Credit
hi
My boyfriend and I got tickets to the 2010 US Women's Open. Unfortunately, I don't have any photographs of the event, since cameras are prohibited. But I do have an example of the outfit I wore, and 'What To Bring' and 'What Not To Bring' to the Women's (or Men's) US Open. *P.S. We actually got to see Natalie Gulbis and Michelle Wie on the greens! It was so neat to see actual Pro golfers!*
hi

Ablove is an example of what I wore (actually, it's the EXACT shirt and Sperry's I wore). It was really, really hot, so I wore a tank top with a little ruffle for some visual detail. Also, when attending either of the Opens, you really do want to dress nicely. These are country clubs you're going to people! Don't wear your ratty old t-shirts! I also wore khaki shorts, and comfortable shoes, because you do a lot of walking around the course. I brought the athletic jacket along because it was chilly that morning, and in case it rained, which it did. It also helped keep off some sun. I paired the outfit with simple pearls to give a classy feel. My hair is too short to pull into a ponytail, so i tied  light blur ribbon in my hair to keep the sun out of my face. It gave a really preppy vibe.

Here's What To Bring!

  •  Definitely bring an umbrella, in case of rain. It ended up pouring right when we were about to leave, and the tournament ended up being canceled for the rest of the day.
  • Do bring sunscreen, and make sure it's sport. In the 95 degree weather we experienced, having a great sunscreen prevented terrible sunburn.
  • Wear a light powder foundation, because you most likely will sweat, and use Chapstick with an SPF throughout the day.
  • Also, don't forget your sunglasses, watch (NO cellphones), and cash. The concession stands are expensive--$3 for a bottle of water!

And what NOT To Bring:

  • You are not allowed cellphones WHATSOEVER! So don't bring it! If your cellphone were to go off during the tournament, especially when a golfer is taking a shot, you can actually get kicked out of the tournament.
  • Also, don't bring your camera. They aren't allowed either, so it's not really worth the hassle.
  • And last but not least, don't bring a bag. Normally the lines are SUPER long to get bags searched, and who really wants to carry around a bag all day. If you do need to bring a bag, use one with drawstrings, so you can wear it on your back. Because of the weather, we were actually permitted to bring water (food and beverage is not normally allowed) and we did carry the bottles in a drawstring bag.
If you ever get the opportunity to attend a US Open, I would recommend it. It's a fun summer experience whether you go with family, friends, or on a date. Even if you aren't into golf, it's an experience you'll have stories about, and people will be asking about!

P.S. I don't know why the Polyvore photos aren't centered. Trust me, it bothers me as much as it bothers you.
